The Inukshuk Story

Inukshuk

In this New Year I have come across the "Inukshuk" story twice, never having heard it before. It is a beautiful story that should be heard more in the world we live today. The story of the Inukshuk led me to a thought process about communication and how we can better our skills in that area. We can be strong as an individual, but by coming together our strengths and abilities allow us to achieve greater success.

"Inukshuk", pronounced in-ook-shook, are stone monuments erected in the image of humans.

Taking Care of You!

As busy small business owners, we forget to take care of ourselves while we are attending to our customers and managing our networking contacts. In order to stay healthy, it is important to pay attention to our health.  If we aren't healthy enough to work, chances are our business is going to suffer.

Some simple things to do despite your busy schedule can include some of the following:

How Safe Is Your Data?

Did you know it is estimated that about 60% of employees are already using their own technology at work in what is now known as BYOD - bring your own device era.

Enterprises are deploying policies permitting employees to bring personally owned mobile devices (laptops, tablets, and smart phones) to their workplace, and use those devices to access privileged company information and applications.

To All Fellow Networkers

I'd like to introduce myself to my fellow networkers at the SBCN.  I'm one half of a husband and wife team, and together we run an IT solutions company based in the tri city region.  We have ample experience not only in the setup of networks and servers but many other services, particularly specializing in Linux. Max is the engineer and he thrives on each and every challenge his profession presents.  We are looking to grow our clientel throughout this thriving district.  We look forward to meeting and interacting with you at our networking events!

Branding Can Change The Country!

Bruce Mau Designs in conjunction with Studio 360 and Kurt Anderson, showcase how branding can change how a country is perceived. Branding, when done properly, can be incredibly powerful!

"Canada has an image problem in the US. When Americans think of Canada, stale and often cliché ideas come to mind; such as maple syrup, hockey, snow and lots of it. These images don’t pay homage to the intellectual, creative and social contributions that Canada makes as a country on a global scale. These clichés do not accurately depict the 21st Century Canada.

Creating Logos With Negative Space

It’s hard to beat a clever use of negative space in logo design. Here are 35 or so logos that use white space well, along with the designers/agencies responsible.

Sometimes all it takes is a creative team, with a new set of eyes to help bring your logo to life!

The Small Business Community Nework Meetings Are Fun!

Have you ever attended a business networking meeting where you feel bored and completely alone No one came to greet you as you arrived, people are standing around in groups but excluding you. To top it all the meeting is boring and of no condequence? Sounds familiar I bet, and a lot of business networking meetings can be like that but not all of them.

Why I Became a Small Business Owner

I have been painting for seven years and love it, it is very rewarding to me to see the end results and take pride in doing it and as I am told by my clients meticulously. Working under various painting companies I knew I enjoyed painting but felt this overwhelming void. I wanted to be making more of a difference. That is when I decided to open Enviro Painting it is incredibly rewarding to know that our practices really do contribute to change.

Do I need to replace my Electrical Service Panel.

The electrical service panel is the largest safety device in our homes. It serves us everyday but we rarely think about it or appreciate what it does.

Business Cards Have a Shelf Life

If you collect business cards from networking events remember not only to add the contacts to your data base, but also to ensure you update your list regularly. Small business owners do have a shelf life, and by that I mean not everyone you meet will either still be in business after a year, or work at the same organization listed on the business card.

Someone mentioned recently they had kept business cards over the past 5 years but not actually checked to see which of those contacts were still in business, so essentially the business cards were gathering dust.
