Short Cuts Can Lead to Challenges

I am not a security expert, in fact the few facts I have picked up have been from my business partner and husband Dave Ockwell-Jenner, or via social media and newspapers. But I am getting frustrated with so many people taking short cuts where security is concerned and then blaming it on the equipment, or the Internet, or hackers!

If you consider every day security you deal with, such as locking the front door of your home, locking your car doors and and making sure your money is in a safe, or a bank then why do challenges arise when it comes to computer security?

Don't Hide Behind Your Direct Messages When Using Social Media

I am getting so much inspiration today from #Twitter and FB re how to help people navigate and use Social Media in a positive and productive way.

One example is concerning Twitter. So many people struggle on what do on Twitter, what to tweet, what not to tweet.

My success on Twitter, if you can call it success is that I have over 5,000 people who want to connect with me, chat with me, ask me questions and generally we get to know each other. It has been called - engaging with each other.

Did You Know - You Are Your Brand?

It is so important to remember when you go out into the community and introduced yourself as an SMB to know YOU are your brand. First impressions do count, you might not be given a second chance.

Is your marketing material up to date, do you even have a website, is your business card consistent with your marketing material as a whole? What impression do you create when you first meet someone, are you memorable, unique, and if you don't know the answers do some market research.

 As U.S. entrepreneurship has grown over the last 15 years, entrepreneurs themselves have changed as well. Among the shifts: Entrepreneurs today tend to be more male, and more educated, than in the mid-1990s.

Be Yourself When Using Social Media

Social media is a wonderful way to connect with people you want to influence, whether you want to help them in some way or sell your products and services. But if you insist on being someone you are not, an example could be - an expert on social media but you have no solid background or even use the social media platforms effectively you will lose out.

It's not about having the most followers, it is about establishing your credibility,knowing what works for you and why it works. Then you might be qualified to offer tips,help,advice to others, but not insist they do it "your way".
