A New Year, a New Opportunity For Your Business

LindaOJ here one of the co-founders of the Small Business Community Network, and I want to wish everyone a Happy & Healthy New Year, 2013 is going to be awesome!

As a small biz owner I know the benefit of looking to the future, planning and preparation, we should look at least 5 years ahead and see what we are doing then, in order to look back and see how we got there.

Why Do You Want A Website?

Why do you want a website? The First Question Is … Why Do You Want A Website?

When a potential client states that they would like to have a website developed for them, one of the very first questions we ask them is “Why do you want a website?” You may be surprised by the responses we get!

Are You Blaming The Economy For Your Inability to Build Business Dreams?

Are you blaming the economy for your inability to build your business dreams?

If you are, it is time for a reality check.

Do you need an attitude adjustment?

The problem with many struggling small businesses—in any economy— begins with the owner’s attitude. The way you think—what you are telling yourself—is reflected in your external results. You create your own reality.

Christmas Spirit!

Christmas is not my favorite time of the year.  Although to many, the opposite is true. Along with the festive season comes a lot of work, extra time shopping for that perfect gift and grocery line ups with carts full of turkey and ham. Me, I prefer to hide during this time of the year.  If I have to shop, it happens when everyone is sleeping or the very first thing I do in the day.  Too many people, too many things to do, too many things to think about, and yes, too much money spent.

Establishing What You do Best

It is really difficult to know whether other people know what you do, and if you do it well. I realise most people  have a website to showcase their products and services and all the social media opportunities are out there, but how do you know who knows what you do well?

LinkedIn has helped a lot of their users by adding a new opportunity to members, it’s called endorsements. This is not to be confused with recommendations, they are two separate entities.

What I learned from sticking my hand in a lawnmower

So back in the summer, when it was nice and warm - remember that - I decided to mow my own lawn.  I was really enjoying myself, feeling very productive and happy as I zipped through the back and side lawns.  But unfortunately the grass on my front lawn had grown so tall and thick that it choked my poor electric old mower into submission. It just stopped dead.

Practical Uses For The Cloud

I am not an IT professional and I do turn to my husband and co-founder Dave Ockwell-Jenner when I have challnges with my IT related stuff. What interests me about the way Dave writes his blogs, especially where technical content is involved, he always manages to share in a way that is simple and easy to understand. For the SMB who does not have an expert to turn to I would advise checking out Dave's recent blog post via TELUS Talks Business and also feel free to ask questions and leave your comments.

What You See is Not Always What You Get

What you see is not always what you get.

If we take me as an example, I have clients who know me as Linda Ockwell-Jenner, President of Motivational Steps. Obviously they have checked out my website previously, engaged me to offer a keynote at a conference and they are very happy.

On the other hand we have people who know me as LindaOJ
Social Media Sweetheart, an early adopter of social media, who is quite active on a lot of platforms and loves building relationships online to see how I can help people.
